FRIENDS OF PIUTE PONDS

Welcome to our “Friends of Piute Ponds (FOPP)” web site which is under development. The purpose for this web site is to highlight the beauty and value of Piute Ponds and to provide a forum for educators, birders, photographers, hunters, hikers, and other recreationists to obtain information and volunteer for different projects or develop and obtain volunteers for projects at Piute Ponds. We would like to strive for a community support system of volunteers interested in Piute Ponds similar to that at Arcata Marsh www.arcatamarshfriends.org. The web site will also provide a platform for contact with Edwards AFB as it regards Piute Ponds. Edwards AFB, Environmental Management is participating with FOPP to spotlight Piute Ponds on this web site.

This alkali mariposa is actually called the Calochortus striatus and it grows abundantly around the ponds in May.
